DENON AVR X2600H AV Home Theater
Our latest test subject was a fantastic DENON amplifier. It is not an exaggeration to say that we were lucky to be able to try out this extraordinary audio device! We did try, but couldn’t really discover any flaws of the amplifier during testing.
The testing took place in the home cinema room designed with perfect acoustics of a repeat customer, Mihály Kocsis. The owner did not spare money and effort to provide the room with acoustic treatment. As a result of precise acoustic measurements, the right number and type of acoustic panels were mounted in the right places creating a practically perfect sounding. The rest of the hi-fi equipments as well as the furnishings of the room were also remarkable, although, this time we focused on the DENON X series amplifier only. Let’s see what this hi-fi device can do….

Classic Denon Look with a Modern Twist
The Denon brand maintains its signature design language, characterized by two prominent rotary dials and an array of smaller function buttons on the front panel. However, unlike earlier Denon models, this version features a plastic front panel instead of the traditional metal finish. Additionally, there’s no cover to conceal the front connectors and controls, giving it a more open, utilitarian appearance.
Despite the visual changes, setup is straightforward, thanks to the comprehensive multi-button remote control, which offers easy access to all key functions.

Let’s have a go!

Movie Sound Test: Immersive and Cinematic
We began our testing with the 2019 blockbuster Avengers: Endgame, played in Blu-ray quality with Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. The sound design delivered the thrill of superhero action sequences with the clarity and depth of a professional cinema. Every detail—from subtle background effects to explosive battles—was rendered with precision. The special effects were crisp, and the soundstage offered an impressive sense of spaciousness, drawing us fully into the action. It genuinely felt as if we were fighting alongside Thor in a battle for justice. The orchestral soundtrack was also reproduced flawlessly, enhancing emotional moments with a clean, dramatic presence.
Next, we screened the adventure-comedy Jumanji: The Next Level, another film rich in immersive soundscapes. From the rustling of jungle foliage to the roars of wild animals, the effects felt vivid and lifelike. The 3D surround sound added an extra layer of realism, intensifying the thrilling sequences. Dialogue and music remained balanced and natural throughout. These results reaffirm that this high-performing amplifier truly shines when paired with quality speakers, making it a solid recommendation for home cinema enthusiasts.

Music Performance Test: A Modern and Classical Blend
Since the Denon AVR-X2600H performed flawlessly with movies, we were eager to see how it handled music playback. We started with a modern hit—“Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd, streamed via Spotify. Cranking up the volume, we were met with no distortion, no harshness—just pure musical energy. The sound was immersive and powerful, as if the rhythmic waves passed through our bodies, delivering a club-like feel right in the comfort of the living room.
This performance affirmed that modern technology can, indeed, rival or even surpass vintage systems in clarity and dynamics. Yet, many argue that nothing compares to the warmth and texture of vinyl. Fortunately, Denon’s amp embraces both worlds: equipped with a Phono input, it can handle your beloved record collection too.
To put this feature to the test, we played Johann Strauss Jr.’s “The Blue Danube” from a vinyl recording. The result was simply breathtaking. The sweeping melodies unfolded with elegance and detail, bringing to life the charm of Vienna’s riverside. We felt transported, dancing in our minds along the banks of the Danube with every orchestral swell.
Final Verdict: Reliable, Versatile, and Ready to Impress
From a design perspective, the Denon AVR-X2600H doesn’t introduce anything radically new—it follows the brand’s classic, familiar aesthetic. But beneath the surface lies a wealth of modern features and solid performance that truly elevate this amplifier.
What We Loved:
- Excellent Dolby Digital 5.1 movie performance
- Clear, distortion-free music playback at high volume
- Phono input for vinyl lovers
- Seamless integration with Spotify, streaming, and modern devices
- Intuitive setup and calibration
- Great value for money
Minor Notes:
- No major innovation in design
- Plastic front panel instead of metal (aesthetic concern, not functional)
Conclusion: Whether you’re building your first home cinema or upgrading an older setup, the Denon AVR-X2600H proves to be a smart and reliable choice. Pair it with quality speakers and good room acoustics, and you’ll enjoy a truly cinematic experience right at home. We confidently recommend this amplifier for both movie and music lovers seeking high performance without breaking the bank.
